Manufacturing: Bon Accord Soft Drinks

“I met Bob at a business networking event in Edinburgh and he certainly made an impression! What I was left with after the initial hit however was that Bob was incredibly human and valued relationships in business as much as our small team does.

Bob and the Business Insurance Bureau have been incredibly helpful over the 3 years we have worked together. They are refreshingly down to earth and candid. The lengths they have gone to, to be helpful, have been set them apart from other companies we’ve worked with – A quick rendezvous on the M8 to get paperwork signed for example!

During the early stages of the CV19 pandemic, Bob and the team were on hand to answer questions and provide advice. They guided me through making a claim, which although took time, was ultimately successful.

No question is too small and I always feel valued, despite being a small customer. Thanks guys!”

Manufacturing: Lochaven International

lochaven
Scottish Knitwear Manufacturer, Lochaven who make all the Knitwear for the Harry Potter films and associated theme parks.

“Scotland is globally famous for its production of high-quality knitwear and Lochaven International, based in the town of Stewarton, Ayrshire, is world renowned in the industry.

The quality of our product led to us being chosen as the knitwear manufacturer for the Hogwart’s uniforms in the Harry Potter movies and subsequent Fantastic Beasts prequels.”

“As a UK manufacturer with worldwide distribution, our insurance needs are complex. We bumped into Bob Hannah many years ago when he spontaneously helped us sort out a troublesome claim for another business we were involved with and we moved our Lochaven insurances over to Bob at the earliest opportunity.

In 2017 we had a burst pipe that was behind a wall, our premises got flooded and it was a huge interruption to our manufacturing process. Bob and the team at The Business Insurance Bureau were on the case immediately, with the repairs being completed in good time and with the claim being settled not long after without hassle. We haven’t had a claim since but know that should we ever need to again; we are in the best possible hands.”

Food & Drink: The Glasgow Distillery

“In 2014 The Glasgow Distillery Company re-opened becoming the first Single Malt Whisky Distillery in Glasgow for 100 years.

Reinventing The Glasgow Distillery from small beginnings in 2014, the business has grown tremendously and as that growth came through, it was obvious that we’d need greater expertise in our insurance arrangements.

This led to the expert guidance of Bob Hannah and The Business Insurance Bureau.

They have a deep understanding of the issues surrounding distilling and the insurance market, particularly around the vital issues of maturing spirit, cask movement and risk management. The Business Insurance Bureau gives us peace of mind in a complex world.

I would recommend Bob and his team’s expertise to anyone in the distilling business.”

Hospitality: Shish Mahal Restaurant

“We’ve been a Glasgow institution since the 1960’s and the Shish Mahal made a sensational impact on its arrival. My uncle was credited with inventing Chicken Tikka Masala – people were queuing down the street! We regularly win awards and customers have often said our Lamb Bhoona should be reclassified as a Class A Drug! We’ve relied upon The Business Insurance Bureau for as long as I can remember and see ourselves in partnership with Bob and his team.

We had a fire a few years ago that started in the flat above and Bob was on site within the hour armed with a loss adjuster. Work started immediately and incredibly, we were up and trading within 5 days!

“It was a truly impressive turnaround, professionally handled. They also do great work on risk managing the kitchen, which is invaluable in a business like ours.

I’d have no hesitation in recommending the services of The Business Insurance Bureau to anyone running a restaurant, no one else comes close.”

Billy Walker, GlenAllachie Master Distiller

Food and Drink: Billy Walker

“In April 2004, we bought the BenRiach distillery from Chivas and returned it to Private Ownership.

When we were purchasing the distillery, we were also required to purchase some quite specialist insurances. Initially, we were stuck in a room with seven experts from a multi-national insurance broking firm who told us we would never be able to purchase the cover we needed.

Our lawyer suggested we meet Bob Hannah at The Business Insurance Bureau. It is fitting I think, that it was a similarly rare, quality independent firm, that managed to unlock the door to the insurance we needed – and we’ve never looked back.

In 2017 the BenRiach Distillery was sold, giving me the time and space to start up The GlenAllachie Distillery with Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson. Placing my new business in the hands of Bob and his team was a natural evolution to our long standing relationship. I look forward to working with Bob for many more years to come.”

Entertainment: The Barrowland Ballroom

“The market and the ballroom were always complex from an insurance viewpoint but when we started running rock concerts, our insurers became very concerned. They put our premiums up to unimaginable levels and there seemed to be nothing anyone could do about it.

We were about to give up concerts altogether when, through another business contact, we were introduced to Bob Hannah and his team.

They commissioned an independent structural/fire survey which showed the ballroom to be a much better risk than had previously been believed. As a result we ended up with our insurance position renegotiated to an acceptable level.

There is no doubt this little touch of ingenuity has turned out to be a major contribution to what is now Scotland’s most vibrant concert venue.”

Stan Riddet, The Barrowland Ballroom

The Arts: Nichol Wheatley

Tam O'Shanter Series at Oran Mor, Glasgow
Nichol Wheatley, Artist

“I was first introduced to Bob 22 years ago when I asked one of my best friends who he trusted to insure his business. My business at the time was a very small art business which involved me painting murals for pubs and clubs in Glasgow. From there it grew into a large business which kitted out the artwork for hotels all across Europe, painted the ceilings of churches and operated from its own dedicated premises.

During this period, I also set up two other companies, a contract framing company and a small art school. All of these businesses had one constant – which was that Bob insured all of the activities that I was engaged with.

Since 2016 I have been working as an artist in my own right. I no longer have the 20 or 30 employees that I had before, but I do have a commercial building that I let out. Bob has now been looking after my insurances for 22 years. He’s always made sure that I am prepared for anything that might happen and his insurances have always been based on my preparation.

This year is the first year I’ve had to make a claim, a freak weather incident caused the commercial unit that I own to flood. Bob and his team could not be more helpful and have made sure I’ve got all the funds that I needed to repair all the damage caused by this extraordinary event.”
